March is National Red Cross Month and at Halloween Empire we’re proud to support the work the Red Cross does here at home and around the world.
Serving the Military
The Red Cross serves in a variety of ways to help people in a variety of situations. They have been supporting the military and their families for decades. If you or a loved one are in the armed services, the organization offers support to your family during any deployments or emergencies. They also provide critical services and many of the comforts of home on military bases and hospitals overseas as well as many services to veterans when they return home after their service ends. Among the services the Red Cross provides are financial assistance, emergency transportation and communications and information services.
One of the most famous services provided by the Red Cross is the many blood drives they host across the United States. At these events, individuals can donate their blood to stock blood banks so that there is enough life-saving blood on hand for disasters and emergencies. Volunteer nurses, doctors, phlebotomists and technicians all work together at blood drives to ensure there is always a safe and adequate supply of whole blood, platelets and plasma available for patients.
Whenever someone is having surgery, suffering from burns or a chronic blood disease or injured in an accident, a blood transfusion can save his or her life. The Red Cross is always in need of fresh blood and its components to be stored and sent to hospitals in the United States and around the world when there is a medical crisis. For Red Cross Month, consider making a blood donation to help save a life. You can contact them at 1-800-733-2767 for more information or visit their blood donation website to find a blood drive near you.
Any time a hurricane hits, a tornado tears through or floods or fire ravage an area, the Red Cross steps in to provide disaster relief in the form of providing shelter, food, clothing and other basic necessities to displaced families. They also provide blood to area hospitals and triage centers, fly or truck in medical and humanitarian supplies and set up emergency communications centers. Your donations enable them to continue this work. On average, the volunteer organization responds to 62,000 global disasters every year.
The Red Cross provides education and training across a wide range of disciplines for everyone from babysitters to emergency medical technicians (EMTs). For individuals who simply want to improve their ability to respond properly in emergencies, there are classes for babysitters, lifeguards, teachers, home health aides and volunteers. They also offer certifications for nurses, physicians and other professionals who wish to keep up to date with the latest techniques, including training and/or certification in:
- First Aid
- CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
- AED (automated external defibrillator use)
- CNA (certified nursing assistant)
- BLS (basic life support for healthcare providers)
- Lifeguard training
- Babysitting and caregiver training
- Swimming instruction for adults and children
Please take some time to visit the Red Cross website and learn how you can volunteer or contribute during Red Cross Month. We are grateful for all the work they do year round to help others!
